On Friday, 25 April 2025, members of the Hutt, Upper Hutt, and Porirua Multicultural Councils came together in spirit to mark ANZAC Day. While we gathered in different places, we stood united in honouring the courage, sacrifice, and service of those who fought for Aotearoa and Australia—and the many cultures who stood alongside them.
In Upper Hutt, the ceremony was especially meaningful. It was a moment to reflect on our diverse, multicultural community and acknowledge the contributions of everyone—Māori, Pacific, European, and beyond. Many of us are descendants of people from all corners of the globe, and ANZAC Day reminds us that defending peace has always been a collective effort.
Gathering at local memorials, families, friends, and neighbours shared in the silence of remembrance, paying tribute to those who gave so much for our future. ANZAC Day is both personal and shared, strengthening the bonds within our city and across the Hutt Valley.
At its heart, ANZAC Day is about remembering our history, honouring contributions, and committing to a future of unity, respect, and cultural understanding. From Porirua to Upper Hutt, we remember together—grateful for the sacrifices of the past and committed to building a peaceful, inclusive society for the future.
