Commemorating Waitangi Day & Celebrating Lunar New Year – A Joyful Community Celebration

The Upper Hutt Multicultural Council was proud to host a special community celebration commemorating Waitangi Day and welcoming the Lunar New Year, bringing together people from all backgrounds to share in the spirit of unity, respect, and cultural pride.

This meaningful event was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the significance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and celebrate the rich diversity that makes our community so vibrant and connected.

Interactive Session with Matua Mike

A highlight of the day was an engaging and educational interactive session led by Matua Mike from Orongomai Marae, who guided our community through an enjoyable and informative discussion.

Participants also took part in a fun interactive quiz, which encouraged learning, connection, and plenty of laughter—making the session both memorable and meaningful for all ages.

Cultural Performances & Entertainment

The celebration featured an incredible lineup of performances showcasing talent, tradition, and cultural pride. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all our performers who made the day truly spectacular:

  •  Acholi Community Wellington
  • Anglican Chinese Mission Lion Dance Troupe
  • Falun Dafa Waist Drum Band
  • Khmer Dance Troupe
  • Viet KidsNZ

Each performance brought energy, colour, and excitement to the event, filling the venue with joy and celebration.
