The streets of Upper Hutt were alive with festive cheer yesterday as the Santa Parade, organised by the Upper Hutt City Council, brought the community together for a joyful celebration of culture, creativity, and togetherness. Families and neighbours lined Main Street, enjoying an afternoon of performances, colourful displays, and the magic of the holiday season.
This year, more than 75 people from the Upper Hutt Multicultural Council joined the parade, showcasing the diversity and vibrancy of our city. The parade came alive with the dazzling Lion Dancers, whose energy, colourful costumes, and lively movements captured the attention of spectators young and old.
Our Chinese Seniors enchanted the crowd with their graceful fan dance, demonstrating the beauty of traditional movement and the importance of connecting generations. The flowing patterns of their fans created a truly magical moment along the parade route.
The Luo Community shared their vibrant culture, music, and energy, offering a glimpse into their rich traditions and adding even more colour and life to the celebration.
Joining the parade in full spirit were BAPS, walking along with their bright and colourful umbrellas, and students from Sri Chakra School of Fine Arts, proudly walking with the community. Their participation added warmth, inclusivity, and joy to the day.
A huge thank you goes to our amazing volunteers, whose dedication and hard work behind the scenes ensured the parade ran smoothly and that everyone had a memorable experience.
The Upper Hutt Santa Parade is more than a festive event — it is a celebration of community, diversity, and togetherness. Thank you to everyone who participated, supported, and cheered along the parade route. Together, we filled Upper Hutt with colour, cheer, and connection, creating memories to treasure this holiday season.
